Damo Suzuki's Network / 2008 JAN 19 (IT) PHOTOS

The concert with Damo and the "reggiana team" was really great, I enjoyed a lot. We performed 1 song of... 2 hours, yep :) We were 9 on stage! and found place and vibes for everybody. There were Luca Giovanardi (Julie's Haircut), Francesco Donadello and Jukka Reverberi (Giardini di Mirò), Enrico Fontanelli (Offlagadisco pax and Volvo Tapes), Nazi Comunale (La Grande Orquestra De La Muerte), Giulio Vetrone, Luca Rossi (Ustmamo, Fennec, nada...).

A wall of photos of the show with Damo Suzuki in Calamita (Cavriago, IT) is viewable at WWW.CALAMITA.NET/DAMO.HTML . Fews pics hereunder.

with Damo Suzuki and French Doctors = DAMO SUZUKI'S NETWORK / October 23, 2003 Paris (FR) : "HOLLYARIS"

In early 2003, Nicolas met by chance DAMO SUZUKI in Koeln. Some months later, we were performing together, recorded and released! It's been the very first of some shows we did all together. The french crew/soundcarriers, aka the "FRENCH DOCTORS", was (and still "is") composed by ourselves through long friendship stories and musical connections. We did not rehearsed and met at the soundcheck. The show was released later in 2005 by the german label 45/Indigo as "HOLLYARIS" (CD2). I think that this is a very good one, I am very happy and proud of what we did and to get it released: 6 "songs", a bit more than one hour of performance. (CD2 is pARIS, The CD1 is a live from HOLLYwood/L.A. with another team around Damo...). You can hear (stream) some pieces of the album at the MySpace page of the FRENCH DOCTORS collective, aka: Edward Perraud (drums...), Nicolas Marmin/Aka_bondage (bass, electronics...), Sebastien Borgo/Sun Plexus (guitar, objects, electronics...), Franq De Quengo/Dragibus (guitar, objects, electronics...), and meee Olivier (bass, acoustic guitar, electronics). This was only the beginning of the story... (to be continued)Thanks to Hic et Nunc (booking) and Jiesse (promoter) at le Cafe de la Danse. Hello to Black sifichi who performed before us on that night. Special super thanks to patrick Da Silva (live sound-ingeneer) and Monsieur Tom Meyer at Master & Servant for the mastering (it's funny because he also mastered tiiiiime ago the 3 first Ulan Bator albums... Was like, 8 years after: "hey Tom?! how are you?!" when I knew that Damo was mastering his performances with him since a long time...!So, some words about HOLLYARIS release. Hereunder the track-listing of the CD2 which is the PARIS concert featuring the lovely people you can see and read a-b-o-u-t above:

01. ouverture (14:25)
02. un pantin sauvage (08:07)
03. parfum (07:47)
04. une rue sans visage (08:03)
05. un voyage a travers toi (14:38)
06. fin du traitement (10:50)

REVIEW by X-RAY:
"DAMO SUZUKI'S NETWORK "HOLLYARIS" 2 CDS DIGIPAX LONGBOX (Funfundveirzig)
"When Damo Suzuki, ex-singer with the now legendary band Can releases a new album, there's one thing you can be sure of, namely that it will be totally different from everything he's released before. He is the one who by his unconditional adherence to improvisation (Damo himself speaks of "Instant Compositions") carries the spirit of Can into the 21st century. Damo pursues his musical vision with a determination few other artists can match. Hollyaris is comprised of excerpts from two performances, each with a totally different lineup. The CD Hollywood was recorded on August 31st 2002 at the Knitting Factory Los Angeles. Damo's voice is very much in the foreground here, which is justified by the fact that his singing is extremely melodic (in fact, the first track is reminiscent of his wonderful vocals on Can's "Future Days" at times). Apart from the voice, it is Len Del Rio's exact percussion which propel the improvisations and Kevin Lee on Moog and Theremin (!) supplying the spacey-spooky sounds who stand out from the rest of the band. Also, it seems that the location of each performance had an influence on what has been captured on tape: On Hollywood, one can discern the occasional elements of westcoast psychedelia, which is mainly due to the three guitars playing. But it's the PARIS CD which is the real surprise of this set. It was recorded only some 14 months later, yet it sounds like a decade has elapsed since the LA-gig. Whereas the latter band played psych- and avantgarderock with the occasional nod in the direction of Can, the music on Paris is much more subtle. With the sole exception of the drummer, all of Damo's five collaborators use electronic processing tools. Thus Damo's singing is presented here in a totally new setting for him. The fact that Damo can adapt his singing so effortlessly to this modern context speaks volumes for his artistic vision and his will to communicate with his fellow musicians (which has always been his ultimate concern). More than any other of Damo's releases, Paris focusses on the search for a collective expression, the communication and understanding across genres and generations. Damo once said that when he goes onstage, he is not so much thinking about the music which he will play but about creating a collective experience with his audience within the moment. The music on Hollyaris bear witness to that attitude."

Permanent fatal error / NEW ALBUM, 2008

I'm more than happy that in few days we'll start the new recording at URS studio, in the mountains near Reggio Emilia (IT). 2005/2007 have passed so so quickly with Faust, Ulan Bator and a nice family event, that PFE, which never stopped, has been "iced", except for some very few solo/duo shows shows (see DEAF SUN-DEAF BLUES together with Andrea Bermabini (video) and a recent collaboration with Simone Pellegrini). I decided late 2007 to restart "hard". There are new members, excellent musicians: SEB MARTEL (guitar), NICHOLAS THOMAS (vibraphone) and, and..., and FRANCK LANTIGNAC (drums), who was the first drummer of Ulan Bator. These guys, together with GIULIO C. VETRONE, BILLET, NICOLAS MARMIN and myself (aka the core members) are PFE. Oh, i should not forget Lionel Darenne the sound-ingeneer! He recorded "LAW SPEED" and we'll do together the new one too. His magic hands/ears gave THE sound to PFE since its birth. All of this is very exciting.

I will send some pictures here during the recording session, if not too much stressed about (no doubt I will).
